A 58-year-old woman died on Tuesday afternoon on the Sir Solomon Hochoy highway when a car driven by her son crashed into a utility pole.

Police said the incident occurred about 1.05 pm on the southbound lane, just after the Golconda exit.

Karen Alexis of Coconut Drive, Fanny Village, Point Fortin was in the front passenger seat while her son, Kadeem Alexis, 30, drove.

Police said Kadeem lost control of the Nissan Sylphy which hit the utility pole and flipped.

He has since been taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment.

Alexis was pinned under the dashboard and had to be removed by fire officers.

Ste Madeleine police are continuing investigations.
