No health care workers tested covid19-positive

NO health care worker in TT has tested positive for covid19.

Dr Mark West, thoracic surgeon at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, made this statement during the virtual health news conference on Tuesday.

West said health care workers have been using the correct personal protective equipment (PPE), and for certain procedures, more PPE needed to be worn.

West also cautioned the public about being complacement about the threat of covid19 because it remains as deadly today as when the first cases were reported.

"It is still a killer."

West said to date there remains no proven medical treatment or vaccine for covid19.

He said if the population fails to adhere rigidly to all of the public health regulations "it will affect our ability to open up the country."

West highlighted a case involving an elderly patient with pre-existing health conditions. He said the patient suffered a collapsed lung. But he added, "We were lucky," because effective medical intervention was done. He said the patient was discharged after recuperating and receiving two negative covid19 cases,
