A trade embargo that was preventing TT from receiving covid19 test kits has now been lifted.

This was announced by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh at a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

He said, "I am happy to report that we will be receiving 4,000 test kits that will go to (the) South West (Regional Health Authority). But I can't give you a firm time. The embargo on that company has been partially lifted – I spoke to the agent two days ago."'He did not say who had imposed the embargo.

Several other countries, including Barbados and Cuba, have also been affected by embargoes and unable to access additional test kits.

Deyalsingh added that the ministry wishes to give Tobago its "own capacity to do point-of-care testing."
