The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development is urging people to avoid travel between Tobago and Trinidad unless it is absolutely necessary.

In a media release on Monday, the division said such necessary circumstances can include medical reasons or other types of emergencies.

“The public is encouraged to adhere to the stay-at-home orders and only venture into the public if you are an essential employee or someone seeking essential services (eg. grocery, pharmacy etc.). The aim is to restrict movement and human congregation as much as possible to limit or prevent the spread of covid19.”

The division said people are also being encouraged to use cloth masks to ensure there is a continued supply of surgical and N95 masks for health care workers.

“Note that the use of a mask or face cover alone will not reduce the risk of getting covid19.

“Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser.

“Cover your cough or sneeze with your flexed elbow, or with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands. Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms. Stay at home when you are sick.“Practice social distancing (keep a minimum of three feet away from people). Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces (door handles, cell phones etc.)”
