FIRST Citizens as closed its Chaguanas branch indefinitely and has instructed 28 employees to self-quarantine.

Confirmation has come from the State bank's corporate communications manager Dexter Charles.

The decision was taken following consultation with the Ministry of Health after a visit by television personality Ian Alleyne who publicly announced he tested positive for covid19. The ministry has not said if Alleyne is one of the 65 confirmed cases in TT. An elderly man died on Wednesday.

The bank was one of several places the talk show host visited and in keeping with proper protocol those exposed to him were asked to self-quarantine.

Alleyne said he had his test done at Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope and claims that staff at the emergency department may have been exposed has been denied by an official at the North Central Health Authority (NCRHA).

The official said anyone entering the emergency department at any public hospital or health centre must pass through tents set up outside. A person with covid19 symptoms is removed from the tent and taken to a confined space. The person is not allowed to enter the emergency area.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram has advised anyone who may have been in contact with someone who is a confirmed coronavirus case to contact 877-WELL hotline or any health centre close to their location.
