A second man has been charged for the February 17 $1.2 million jewellery heist at Caribbean Jewellers at Gulf City Mall, Lowlands.

Alan Melville, 26, of Hart Lane Government House Road in Scarborough appeared before a registrar in the Scarborough Magistrate First Court to answer to the charge of three counts of robbery with aggravation. He was arrested outside the Scarborough Magistrate Court last Thursday after appearing in court on another matter.

The charge was laid indictably and bail was denied since his record showed he had several pending matters before the court. He was informed of his rights to apply to a judge in Chambers for bail.

PH taxi driver Alveion Nurse, 26, of Providence Road, Les Coteaux was the first person to be charged for the daring daylight robbery. Nurse first appeared before Magistrate Duane Murray in the Scarborough First Court charged with three counts of robbery with aggravation on February 21.

According to reports, a lone man armed with a gun walked into Caribbean Jewellers at the Lowlands mall and robbed the three employees of the store of gold jewellery worth $1,244,164.

Nurse was represented by attorney Martin George. Nurse has four pending matters before the court for larceny, common assault and robbery with aggravation and one previous conviction for possession of marijuana.

Melville and Nurse will reappear in court on March 20.

Charges were laid by Sgt Glenville Wilson of the Shirvan Road Police Station.

Meanwhile, one teenage girl remains hospitalised while another teen has been questioned and released after they were both allegedly shot in the getaway car following the robbery.

The two form two female students were injured during a shoot-out with police and the men, who crashed the getaway car along Union Road while trying to evade police.

One teen was found alone in the car with a bullet wound to the head. Stolen jewellery was found in the car. Police say the other teen later went to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her hand.

Providing an update on the teens recently, Tobago Snr Supt Sterling Roberts said, “One of the teenagers was discharged and interviewed by the police and released pending further enquiries. The other teenager, who was airlifted to Trinidad and was at Mt Hope, is now back at the Scarborough General Hospital. She is yet to be interviewed.”

Investigations are ongoing.
