Man shot in January dies Carnival Friday

A shopkeeper who was shot in January died as a result of his wounds on Carnival Friday, raising the number of people murdered during that weekend to nine.

Damian Farrell, 41 was among three people shot during an incident on Harding Place Cocorite.

“They just ran into the parlour and started shooting,” said Farrell’s father. “I don’t know what they killed my son for. I don’t know why they killed the next man.”

Farrell’s father said his son was arrested on robbery charges but was acquitted. He said his son was not involved in any criminal activity.

“The most my son would do is sell a little weed, that is all,” He said.

The father lamented that not enough was being done to solve his son’s murder. He said after the shooting, police took CCTV footage from the parlour but he had not gotten any feedback from police.

The father said after his son is buried he will take over the shop.

“They will have to come there and shoot me too,” he said.

On January 31, Farrell, a father of two, was at his parlour along with two other men, one identified as Rolan Isaac, when gunmen stormed in and started shooting.

Isaac died on the scene while Farrell and another man were taken to the St James infirmary.

Up to press time no arrests were made in connection to the shooting.
