Two men are at the San Fernando General Hospital after an accident at Mosquito Creek on Thursday morning.

Police said they were told at around 7.15 am that a white Nissan B15 had collided with a trailer truck, causing heavy traffic.

The driver of the car, Terrance Benjamin, is at hospital in critical condition with a head injury. His father John Benjamin is in stable condition.

Police said Terrance may have fallen asleep while driving.

The truck driver has been identified as Radish Jonathan and he was unharmed.

When Newsday arrived at the scene, he was walking around and making arrangements to move the truck. He said he was okay.

Drivers were redirected onto the old road to alleviate traffic caused by the accident on the recently opened road, which does not have a shoulder.

A close friend of the father and son, who visited them at hospital on Thursday afternoon, told Newsday they were responsive but in a lot of pain.

"John is having some respiratory problems, so the scan will possibly determine the extent of the injury.

"Terrance, on the other hand, is in resuscitation because of the injuries sustained to his head and other parts of the body."

Both men live at Short Street, La Brea, and John sells mangoes at the San Fernando market.
