TWO-TIME Olympian and national sprinter Kai Selvon took time away from her Tokyo Olympics preparations to give some inspiration to the youths of TT as well as promote her book Fit for the Fight.

Selvon said, “I want to thank everyone that were involved and made it possible. It wasn’t only knowledgeable for the children, I learnt some things also. After each session, I would either be pulled to the side for private conversations with some of the students or be welcomed to a noticeable number of messages on social media.

Selvon continued to reflect, “I learnt that there are lots of kids who are looking for that extra push. They are afraid to take that leap of faith to chase their dreams, some are even a little too passive about it. I want to encourage them that there is more to life than what they are seeing. So, don't be afraid to expand your horizon; you will only know if you can achieve the goal or dream if you take that first step.

The Auburn University Alumni is seeing rewards already and is seeking help moving forward. “After the responses I got, I really wish that the ministry can get on board with myself and the Fit for the Fight campaign to help push more positivity and give more encouragement to the youths.”

The 27-year-old, Selvon urged others to follow in her footsteps, “You will be surprised how a little encouragement can go a long way. Let us all make an honest effort to make a change. Let's create something now that can mould and steer them onto a different part. Whether, it is getting the books in the school system, or getting more athletes to go to the schools to share their stories to encourage or help motivate the youths.”

The schools that she visited over the last few weeks were Maracas SDA, Trinity College East, El Dorado East Secondary School, Trinity Junior School and her home town Maracas, St. Joseph.
