Hours after he slashed an inmate at the Chaguanas Magistrate's Court, Nigel McSween returned to the very same court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of malicious wounding.

McSween, 33, is on remand on a number of charges including murder, shootings, robberies and sexual offences. He was in the prisoner' holding cell in the courtroom when he attacked a 29-year-old inmate with a sharpened piece of metal on Tuesday morning, cutting the man above the left eye.

Police separated the men and took McSween to the Chaguanas Police Station where he was charged. The wounded inmate was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility when he was treated and discharged back into the custody of police.

McSween was taken to court where the charge was read to him and he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to one year hard labour for the wounding charge and three months hard labour for a charge of being in possession of the weapon used to slash the other inmate. Police are continuing enquiries as to how McSween was able to access the weapon from in prison.
