US citizen dies in road accident

US CITIZEN Andre Horsham, 56, died in a road accident in Claxton Bay on Sunday.

Horsham's cousin, Sharon Ramsingh-Gopie, told Newsday that police officers visited their home in Fyzabad to inform them of Horsham's death. She said the officers did not give them much information but gave relatives a number to contact the St Margaret's Police Station in Claxton Bay.

Ramsingh Gopie said relatives were shocked by the news. She said Horsham visited them Saturday and when he was leaving, promised to visit again soon.

Ramsingh-Gopie said Horsham was "always jolly and someone who could cheer you up." She added, "He had a sweet tinkle in his eye."

She said he lived in Chaguaramas and then in Fyzabad before migrating to the US some years ago. Horsham lived in Long Island, New York.

Ramsingh-Gopie also said Horsham was close to her brother Roddy Ramsingh, who was murdered two years ago in a bar close to their home.

She said Sunday would have been Roddy's 48th birthday making Horsham's death difficult to handle. She said Horsham's funeral arrangements would be made in due course.

When Newsday contacted the St Margaret's Police Station, an officer said she could not give any information to the media about the accident.
