Mark Nurse will be laid to rest on Thursday (January 16) after a service at the parade square of the Dwight Yorke Stadium at 11 am.
Nurse, 40, an MI4 security officer, was Tobago’s tenth murder victim for 2019. He was shot once in the head during a robbery around 3.30 am on December 20. According to police, Nurse and another security officer, Atoyia Charles, were collecting the day’s sales from Penny Savers Supermarket on Carnbee Main Road, when bandits approached.
As Charles left the building with the money bags, she was approached by two masked gunmen who ordered her to hand over the money. Charles was shot in the leg and shoulder. Nurse, a father of two, died at the scene.
The bandits escaped with $160,000.
Nurse’s autopsy was done on Wednesday as there is no resident forensic pathologist on the island.
Newsday attempted to contact THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles for comment on the timeliness of autopsies, however all calls went unanswered.
