THE Prime Minister is expected to address an event, Spotlight on the Budget, today at 9 am at the Radisson Hotel, Port of Spain. The event is being organised by the Ministry of Finance.

Government sources suggested on Tuesday that it could follow the format of the Spotlight on Energy event held in March 2018 which consisted of presentations headed by Dr Rowley and Finance Minister Colm Imbert. These presentations will include the use of graphs and charts which are not allowed in Parliament.

It will all be an opportunity to clear up any queries that members of the public may have on Budget 2020.

The budget debate kicks off tomorrow when Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar replies to Finance Minister Colm Imbert’s presentation from Monday. Other MPs will join the debate, with the budget then scheduled to go to the House Standing Finance Committee for a line-by-line analysis, and then to the Senate.

Rowley did not discuss the budget with reporters in Parliament on Monday, nor at a function on Tuesday to commission a walkover at Four Roads, Diego Martin.
