Jamaican held for Arima landlord's murder

A JAMAICAN man was charged for the May murder of landlord Dominic Houlier Almerales and is expected to appear before an Arima magistrate today.

Police said Andrew Johnson, 29, was arrested last Friday in Arima and was charged yesterday after investigators received instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Police are also searching for another Jamaican and a Venezuelan man who the suspect was also involved in the incident, but suspect the Venezuelan may have left Trinidad.

Almerales, 37, was shot and killed when he went to his Temple Street, Arima, property to confront tenants who did not pay their rent. His wife Desiree Sparkle Layne, 39, was wounded after she was shot in her leg and shoulder. Almerales was killed near the Temple Street Hindu School.
