Education Ministry: No approval for ‘Sandman’s’ funeral in school

THE Ministry of Education has made it clear that it has not granted approval for the use of the Las Cuevas Government Primary School to hold the funeral of murder victims Vaughn “Sandman” Mieres and his wife Alita Dehere tomorrow as advertised on social media.

In a press release yesterday, the ministry said requests for funerals in government buildings cannot be facilitated, and approvals for the use of government buildings and grounds are considered based on five categories. Those are – educational, social or cultural meetings, charitable fund-raising functions, political or religious conventions, dance, bingo or other shows, and the use of school grounds only for sports, meetings or tournaments.

Mieres, Dehere and two men – said to be bodyguards, were shot dead at Mieres’ St Michael’s Village, Las Cuevas home at around 4.30 am last week Thursday. Mieres was a reputed gang leader.

One person has been held in connection with the murders.
