Guns found in Icacos

FIVE high-powered firearms and a cache of ammunition were discovered along the Icacos Beach by South Western Division Task Force officers on Saturday.

Police conducted major operations across all nine of its divisions over the over the weekend, carried out by various units and resulting in a number of firearm seizures and arrests.

A police report said, during a mobile patrol in the Icacos on Saturday morning, they observed six men who appeared to be foreigners, walking along the beach. Upon seeing the officers, the men ran into the nearby mangrove. The police chased them, searched the area and found two AR-15 rifles, one AK-47 rifle, one TEC-9 pistol, and one 9mm pistol together with 79 round of ammunition, 46 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 110 rounds of 7.62 ammunition and 11 rounds of .380 ammunition.

Cedros residents responded to the find on social media.

One Facebook user said, "Seems like we are expecting a war in Trinidad, who are we frightening? Why do persons need to have such weaponry, what kind of life are we living here."

Another said, "So we know now where the weapons coming from. What is being done to stop it?"

Yet another user said, "It's war them going and fight? The police don’t even have that calibre of weapons."
