TT squash teams play for fifth place

THE TT squash players had arguably their best day at the 2019 Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships, as both the TT boys and girls teams won their series in the team competition, at the Queen's Park Indoor Racquet Centre in St Clair, yesterday.

In the morning session, the TT boys got past British Virgin Islands 5-0. Nicholas Le Quay got the home team off to a convincing start getting past Daniel Henderson 11-5, 11-3, 11-5, before Joshua Poon doubled TT's advantage with an 11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7 win. It quickly became 4-0 to TT as Kobie Khan and Michael Chin Lee both had walkover victories. Scott-Michael Shaw made it a clean sweep for TT after defeating Oliver Henderson 11-1, 11-2, 11-2.

In the afternoon session, the TT girls were almost as strong as the boys getting past Cayman Islands 4-1. After Mya Francois got a walkover win, Chloe Walcott got another win for TT with an 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 victory over Skye Buckley.

Jade Pitcairn put Cayman Islands on the board after outlasting Aimee De Verteuil 11-4, 11-3, 11-3, but TT sealed the series as Jinan Al-Rawi earned a walkover win. Sigourney Williams then continued her stellar form in the team competition getting past Alyssa Gordon 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.

Both the TT boys and girls will play in the fifth/sixth place playoff on the final day of the tournament today. At 9 am, the girls will face St Vincent and the Grenadines and at noon the boys play either Jamaica or St Vincent.
