TT girls' first team trio of Cameron Wong, Jordane Dookie and Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph relinquished a solitary game as they cruised to a 3-0 victory against Guyana in the ITF/Cotecc 12-and-under girls' main draw final yesterday.
The five-day tournament concluded at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua, with the two TT boys teams placing first and second.
The girls' first team cruised to the title, while the boys team endured a tougher final against their TT team-mates but still won with room to breathe.
Zachery Byng and James Hadden, playing for TT I, won their respective singles matches against TT II's Isaiah Boxill, 6-2, 6-4, and Kale Dalla Costa, 7-6 (2), 6-2, before Byng and Hadden joined up to finish the job with a 6-4, 6-1, win over Boxill and Dalla Costa.
In the girls' main draw final, Wong, Dookie and Daniel-Joseph completed a nearly flawless series of performances with a comprehensive victory over Guyana for the second time in the competition. Wong drubbed Paula Kalekyezi 6-0, 6-0, in the first singles match, while Dookie sealed the win with a victory by the same score-line over Menikshi Jaikisson. Daniel-Joseph then paired with Wong to beat Kalekyezi and Jaikisson 6-0, 6-1, an even wider margin than the 6-0, 6-2, result they inflicted on the same partnership on Monday, the first day of competition.
Behind TT's two boys team were Curacao – 3-0 winners over Suriname – in third place.
Curacao placed third, behind TT I and Guyana in the girls' event. TT also featured a second girls' team, who finished in fifth place on Thursday, following a 3-0 victory over St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Under-12 tournament followed last week's ITF/Cotecc Under-16 competition in which TT's mixed team of Aalisha Alexis and Ethan Wong placed second overall to Barbados. TT II's Isabel Abraham and Sebastien Byng combined for a third place finish.
