A 55-year-old man was killed at his Belmont home on Thursday night when a gunman came knocking at his door.

Police said Nigel Bellot was in the bedroom of his Carr Lane home with a female companion, when, at about 10 pm, he heard a knock. Bellot answered the door and came face to face with a gunman who shot him dead before escaping.

While relatives at the Forensic Science Centre in St James declined to speak with the media, police said they are working on the theory that he was shot dead because he owed someone money.
