MEMBERS of the board of the National Association of Athletics Administrations of TT (NAAA) say they cannot comment on TT sprinter Michelle-Lee Ahye's future amidst domestic-violence charges.

Yesterday, officials at the Williamson County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Ahye had been charged with "assault causing bodily injury, family violence" on June 20 and was released on June 21 after being granted US$2,500 bail. She will appear at the Williamson County District Court on August 6.

Ahye has since denied the charges via a Facebook post saying, “I am aware of the information that was brought to the public’s attention. My family and I appreciate the concern and support that we have been receiving. No charges was (sic) laid against me."

Contacted by Newsday, NAAA secretary Dexter Voisin said, "That's a personal thing, I can't comment on that. We have not discussed that matter and we don't know if the rumour is true, because it's just a social media post."

Told the charges had been confirmed, he said, "We weren't aware of that.

"At the end of the day, whatever athletes do off the track is not too much of our interest, but we as a board haven't discussed that. What I'm aware of is, she is selected to go to the Pan American Games."

The 2019 games will be held in Lima, Peru, from July 26-August 11.

NAAA president Ephraim Serrette told Newsday, "I don't know all the implications. We have never been faced with any such thing, so I will have to research it. I will research if we have ever had such past incidents."
