Murder suspect's friend arrested for assault

The Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) carried out a series of exercises in east Port of Spain and Laventille this morning in search of suspects wanted for murder and for possession of firearms.

Police went to the home of a suspect in the killing of Beetham teen Jamel Charles, at Morgan Lane, Pashley Street, Laventille. They did not find the man they were looking for, but found his friend, who they realised had an outstanding warrant for assault. He was arrested and handed over to the Besson Street police.

Charles, 16, was shot and killed when he went to Pashley Street in search of a standpipe to take a bath last Saturday.

IATF members also went to the home of a suspect in search of weapons at St Francois Valley Road, Belmont, but did not find anything.
