SAXOPHONIST Arturo Tappin will show off his many moods tomorrow at the Kaiso Blues Café, Wrightson Road in Port of Spain.

The Many Moods of Arturo Tappin will feature the saxophonist in two shows at 6 pm and 9 pm. Special guest for the evening will be multi-talented, ace pannist Dane Gulston.

Tappin is a regular at concerts and festivals in the region, particularly in Jamaica, where he has shared the stage with Wynton Marsalis, the legendary Ernest Ranglin and Chuck Mangione.

Tappin, who is also a favourite with TT audiences, thrilled patrons at the Rotary Clubs of Maraval and Port of Spain's Jazz Under the Stars at Green Meadows in Santa Cruz in May. He has also entertained at Tobago Jazz festival and Jazz Artists on the Greens. His performances here usually draw patrons to the front of the stage to dance and just get closer to great entertainment.

Besides touring jazz festivals worldwide, Tappin has performed at social engagements including a performance for past US Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, twice for Cuba's Fidel Castro, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Viscount Severn.

He always amazes his fans with his music. Whether in a recording session for a top artiste, as a guest at a music festival, or in some nightclub, he captures hearts and souls with his saxophone. His notes thread together like an intense conversation and a rich romantic language that speaks to listeners vividly and tenderly, said a media release.

Many musicians recognise his talent. One such musician is Stephen “Cat” Coore, founder member and lead guitarist of Third World. He says of Tappin, “I first saw Arturo in his music video. I was listening to the song and I thought, this guy’s really good. Since then I’ve followed closely. What sets Arturo apart is that his personality comes through his music. He is a wonderful musician because he’s not only skilled in his ability to play his instrument, but he has a spirit that comes through in his playing, which is very important.”

Outside of his work, Tappin lives the quiet life. Devoted to his family and his music, humble in his outlook, he maintains a strong loyalty to those who have helped him along the way. He believes his fortunes are due to “being very lucky, with one thing always leading to another, and people always going out of their way to help me move forward.”
