Senior police said the 15 women held at a suspected brothel in Cunupia over the weekend have not been charged as members of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) are continuing inquiries on the matter.

Police said the women were originally kept in the central division but were taken to Port of Spain while SORT continues their investigations on the matter.

Officers in the central division said divisional police were not involved in the raid at the brothel on Saturday night.

The 15 women consist of 12 Venezuelans and three Jamaicans.

Also arrested were five Nepalese men and the owner of the bar.

Speaking with Newsday on Sunday, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith said SORT will be taking the lead in targeting establishments dealing with human trafficking.
