MP for Rio Claro/Mayaro Rushton Paray has called on the Parent Teachers Associations (PTA) of the Rio Claro Hindu School to work harder in support of the school.

“The parent teachers association is a very important organisation for any school as this group has the power to effectively bring change and deal with any issues affecting students.”

Speaking at the school’s graduation last week, Paray commended the PTA for its support to the school through sporting activities and to the performing arts. He commended principal Boodram Bidah, staff and the PTA for their work academically and non-academically for 2019. Students excelled in the performing arts at Baal Vikaas, he said and the school’s cricket team which won the Atlantic South-Eastern Championship this year.

The MP urged parents to participate in their children’s adolescent years, go toPTA meetings regularly and to make a commitment to work with the principal and teachers. “We have the responsibility to encourage youth development in this country,” he said.

Over the past four years, Paray has taken the initiative to present all graduates of secondary and primary schools in his constituency with tokens as a way of encouraging them to do better academically.

Manager of the school Jaipersad Roopnarine said it is the vision, passion, and mantra of the Maha Sabha that every child is given a quality education. “Our esteemed secretary general Sat Maharaj is a stickler for good management and academic excellence,” Roopnarine said.

The Maha Sabha, he said, provides the necessary support and guidance towards success at the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) each year.

Roopnarine brought greetings on behalf of the Maha Sabha, extending congratulations to Bidah as well as the staff, who he said goes beyond the call of duty to reach students on a daily basis.

He also thanked the graduates and their parents for putting in many hours of work every day for the exams. He quoted Oprah Winfrey: “Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”

“Many of life’s failure are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up,” he said. In all, 73 students graduated, with 51 passing for their first choice.
