Daniel-Joseph books semi spot

JAEDA-LEE Daniel-Joseph stood out among her local peers yesterday when action continued at the Confederation of Tennis of Central America and the Caribbean-sanctioned JITIC Under-14 Centroamerica tournament, at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua.

Daniel-Joseph, opened with a comprehensive 6-3, 6-0 girls’ second draw (consolation) singles victory over Puerto Rico’s Cristina Rivera, before sealing a spot in today’s semifinal with a win over compatriot Kiera Youssef. Today, she will meet Jamaica’s Alyssa James, who had a similarly strong outing yesterday, recording two comfortable wins, the second of which came at the expense of TT national youth player Ella Carrington. Charlotte Ready and Jordane Dookie, the other local girls involved in the second draw yesterday, were both eliminated. There are no TT players remaining in either the boys’ or girls’ main draws.

Meanwhile, several matches, mostly in the boys singles and doubles main draw and second draw were postponed because of rain.

Action is expected to resume today from around 9 am at the same venue.
