Bus driver, now mentally stable, to be interviewed

The 31-year-old bus driver who was hospitalised after the death of one of her passengers, three-year-old Isaiah Hazel has been deemed mentally stable to be interviewed by police.

The mother was released from the psychiatric ward of the San Fernando General Hospital on Tuesday morning after spending the last four days being evaluated.

The woman had fainted and went into a panic attack on Friday while being interviewed by police officers. She was then rushed to the hospital where she has received treatment.

After a psychiatric evaluation, she was released into police custody. Up to yesterday evening, she was expected to be questioned.

According to police, Hazel was found unresponsive in a school bus in California last Thursday afternoon. It was reported that he fell asleep in the school bus earlier, in the morning, and the driver thought all the children had been dropped off.

The driver returned home and locked her vehicle. The boy was only found when the driver went to collect school children in the afternoon.

An autopsy done on Hazel confirmed he died of hyperthermia caused by extreme heat and dehydration. Hazel will be laid to rest on Thursday after a funeral at the Mt Moriah Spiritual Baptiste Church in California.
