The tale of two parties

THE EDITOR: 57 years later and where can we say we are as a country? The two party system in Trinidad and Tobago dominates the political climate. The two have had their fair share of governance in this country but look at our current global status. We are making headlines for the wrong reasons - crime, recession, job losses, our international political alliances and corruption.

The two parties continue to blame each other while we the citizens look on dumbfounded at the lack of solutions available to us. What we do know as a country is that billions have been stolen and unaccounted for. We know our country does not reflect that profile of a "oil rich" nation. The two parties continue to seek the interest of a few instead of that of the entire country.

The two continue to govern as though we are still a colonial nation. No progressive solutions or directives in sight. How much more do we the citizens take before one takes the citizenry first? We are seeing the rapid decline of our nation due to the simple fact we as citizens have failed to acknowledge the two party system is not in the interests of the citizens. Instead the two parties continue to govern with their selfish interests first and the nation last!
