Cousins to stand trial for J'Ouvert stabbing

COUSINS Dinesh and Wendell Ramsingh were committed on Wednesday in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court to stand trial in the High Court for stabbing a man six years ago on J’Ouvert morning.Dinesh Ramsingh, 36, and Wendell, 26, are from South Oropouche and were before senior magistrate Jo-Ann Connor charged with wounding with intent.A preliminary inquiry saw police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan leading evidence from eight witnesses, including PC Matloo of the San Fernando CID.The charge arose from an incident on Sutton Street, San Fernando, at about 8.35 am during the celebrations. Omar Sookraj was stabbed with a bottle in the chest and stomach. He was was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital.

Matloo investigated and arrested the Ramsinghs.After legal submissions yesterday from their attorney Ainsley Lucky and Seedan, Connor ruled that the police had made out a prima-facie case and ordered the men to stand trial in the assizes.They are on $60,000 bail.
