Venezuelan man hit by truck

A 51-year-old Venezuelan man is dead after being hit by a truck on Friday morning.

According to reports, Jose Rafael Quintana was walking with a group of friends on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in Barataria, at about 6.30 am.

As the group was about to cross, the driver of a truck lost control and struck Quintana, throwing him several feet.

He died at the scene.

Sources told Newsday the man was a father of two and a husband whose children and wife live in Venezuela.

The number of road fatalities for the year stands at 47.
