Kamla: Remember Christ’s sacrifice

OPPOSITION leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on those in authority and the public at large to remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and engage in deeper introspection for today’s holiday, in her Corpus Christi message to the nation.

Persad-Bissessar made the remarks in a press release, in which she encouraged the public to exemplify Christ’s teachings by offering acts of kindness, goodwill, assistance and charity towards those in need. She said Corpus Christi has expanded to symbolise the presence of God in all people and said now more than ever hope and faith was needed.

“I ask all citizens to use this opportunity to reflect on where we are, and what needs to be done to transform our country. “Further, I call on those in authority to reflect on the true principles offered by Corpus Christi and use the inspiration that comes from Christ’s sacrifice for humanity, to sacrifice their own desires, so that decisions can be made for the benefit of all citizens.”

Persad-Bissessar said the occasion was also reason to celebrate TT’s diversity and encouraged citizens of all religions to observe the message behind Corpus Christi and forge closer bonds with the Christian community.
