TT BASKETBALLER Joshua Bridgewater has officially committed to Weatherford College in Texas, United States, as he began his athletic college career.

The 19-year-old recently completed his final year at Trinity Catholic High School in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Bridgewater, who is from the Maloney Pacers Basketball Club and Youth Development Programme, has been enrolled in Trinity High’s basketball programme for the past two years. In his final year, he was instrumental in the team’s successful run during the 2018-2019 season.

Averaging 8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, Bridgewater also had several standout performances throughout the year.

He recorded a total of 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks as he helped Trinity High secure an easy 73-20 win over

the Independent High School of Wichita in February.

On February 28, he was the second player to score in double figures, with 12 points in Trinity’s 62-57 win over Garden Plain High School in the sub-state semi-finals. Trinity High went on to be crowned the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 2A sub-state champions, earning them a trip to the state basketball championships in March.

They completed the regular season ranked number one in the state, and were runners-up in state championship finals.

Bridgewater, who was born and raised in Chaguanas, attended Chaguanas North Secondary School before moving to the US in 2017. Competing collegiately was a life-long sporting goal for the six-foot-nine-inch forward.

He said, “Playing in college has been a dream for me ever since I’ve been in sports. I want to represent my country and show everyone that anyone can make it no matter where you are from.”
