TT players continue toil at Chaconia Classic

THE TT players continued to toil at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua, on the second day of the ITF World Tennis Tour Chaconia Classic Women’s 15s tournament yesterday.

In fact, the six completed singles matches all ended in comfortable straight-set wins for the visiting players.

Fourth seed Akilah James of the United States cruised past TT’s Soizette Simmons 6-0, 6-1; number six ranked Nadia Echeverria Alam of Venezuela blanked Kimberly Sabga 6-0, 6-0; and eighth seed Pauline Wuarin of Switzerland whipped Carlista Mohammed 6-1, 6-0.

Keira Blackbeard of Canada took care of Keesa Lee Young 6-1, 6-0 while Dylan Cline and fellow American Stephanie Kent each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories over Shauna Valentine and Osenyonye Nwokolo respectively.

In the women’s doubles, the American pair of Dakota Fordham and Amy Kaplan thrashed Lee Young and Aalisha Alexis 6-0, 6-0.

Three doubles matches were contested on Tuesday evening.

The TT pair of Rose and Breana Stampfli needed three sets to defeat Simmons and US’ Tricia Mar 6-1, 2-6, 11-9.

In another three-set battle, the American duo of Micheline Aubuchon and Dylan Cline overcame Anya King and Netherlands’ Iris Verweij 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.

And the Poland twosome of Olga Brozda and Paulina Jastrzebska breezed past the pair of Sabga and Blackbeard 6-1, 6-1.

The tournament will continue today, at the Racquet Centre, from 2 pm.
