TT, Panama clash for Group B top spot

TT AND Panama will be vying for first place in Group B of the Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship, at the Puerto Vallarta Stadium, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Both teams will be facing off in a top-of-the-table contest today from 7 pm (TT time), following the encounter between Turks and Caicos Islands and the United States Virgin Islands.

TT and Panama have been victorious in their respective pair of matches thus far in Group B.

On Monday, TT brushed aside the Turks and Caicos Islands 6-0, with goalkeeper Zane Coker and Kevon Woodley scoring two goals each, while captain/coach Ryan Augustine and Shane Hospedales chipped in with one apiece.

The following day, TT whipped US Virgin Islands 7-2, courtesy of a hat-trick from Kevon Woodley and two goals each from Jesse Bailey and Hakeem King.

TT have a goal difference of plus 11, but Panama sit atop the standings by virtue of a goal difference of plus 14.

The Panamanians, who are the defending Concacaf champions, hammered the US Virgin Islands on Monday and Turks and Caicos Islands on Tuesday – both by 8-1 margins.

The quarter-finals will take place tomorrow , with the winners of Group B meeting the runners-up of Group A, while the runners-up of Group B scheduled to face the winners of Group A.

Up to press time last evening, Mexico, Guatemala and Costa Rica were battling for the top two spots in Group A, with Jamaica eliminated.

The semi-finals are set to take place on Saturday, and the final, and third-place match, are carded for Sunday.

The finalists will be the Concacaf representatives at the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay.
