While Central Division police were hunting escaped prisoners, they arrested five men wanted for offences ranging from murder to shooting at the police.

Police confirmed a 30-year-old man was arrested in Gasparillo yesterday for the murder of a man in Claxton Bay last year, and a 23-year-old was arrested on the Southern Main Road Chaguanas for his part in the murder of a Laventille man in 2017.

Hours later, a 19-year-old man was arrested at Tulahal Road, Charlieville, for the murder of Ganchan Diaz, aka "Smeagle," at Asaraff Road, Charlieville, last March.

Another man was arrested at around 10 pm last night when he tried to flee the country for allegedly stabbing Kurt Edwards to death and dumping his body at a Tacarigua cemetery. Police said they believe the 25-year-old Jamaican tried to leave Caroni, where he lived, to go to Cedros to get a boat to take him to Venezuela.

The last suspect was arrested while hiding at a house in El Socorro at around 2 am this morning. The 25-year-old was arrested for allegedly shooting at police at Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, last month.
