Police Commissioner Gary Griffith this morning said a unit designated to deal with international criminals will be formed as part of his plan to restructure the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU).

Speaking with Newsday, Griffith said the unit, which will form part of the OCIU, will be assigned to deal specifically with foreign criminals operating in TT.

"In the restructuring of the intelligence department, we realised there were certain shortcomings," he explained. "There will be six units within this branch and one of them will be involved in gang related activities, both for local and foreign gangs.

"It will be monitoring persons of interest, not just Venezuelans but also the situation with illegal gambling that is being used by foreign elements."

Last month Griffith announced his intention to revamp the OCIU. This change comes two years after the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau was merged with the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit to form the OCIU.
