15 months for driving without licence, with marijuana

A Carapichaima man who has been previously charged and convicted for driving without a licence was arrested on Wednesday night in Port of Spain.

Police said Christopher Roberts, 35, of Bank Village, was driving his Nissan Almera in the Central Market at around 10.30 pm when members of the Port of Spain City Police Cpl Dwayne John and PCs St John and Dindial, who were on patrol, saw him and pulled him over.

While searching him they found some marijuana in his pocket and also realised he was driving without a licence.

He was charged by Dindial and appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate yesterday. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for driving without a licence and three months for the possession of marijuana.

The magistrate, in passing judgement, considered Roberts' criminal record, as he has had similar convictions in the past.
