TT players struggle as Chaconia Classic serves off

TT PLAYERS struggled in the singles category yesterday, as the ITF World Tennis Tour Chaconia Classic Women’s 15s tournament served off at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua.

Six singles matches took place up to press time last evening.

But the TT players were beaten without much of a resistance, with Anya King suffering a 6-2, 6-1 defeat by Netherlands’ Iris Verweij and Aalisha Alexis getting a 6-0, 6-0 spanking by another Dutch player, third-seeded Lexie Stevens.

The other seeded player on the court yesterday was Maileen Nuudi of Estonia, but she was eliminated by United States’ Amy Kaplan 6-3, 7-6(3).

Tricia Mar got past her American compatriot Dakota Fordham 6-4, 6-3, fellow American Sabastiani Leon beat Poland’s Olga Brozda 6-2, 6-4 and Paulina Jastrzebska of Poland whipped Vivian Mayumi Toma of Brazil 6-1, 6-1.

Three women’s doubles matches were set to take place last evening – Anneliese Rose and Breana Stampfli (both TT) versus Mar and Soizette Simmons (TT); Jastrzebska and Brozda versus Keira Blackbeard (Canada) and Kimberly Sabga (TT); King and Verweij versus Dylan Cline and Micheline Aubuchon (both US).

The tournament will continue today from 2 pm.
