Out of 13 held in plot, 1 charged with murder

Out of 13 people arrested for a suspected plot to kill a state witness at a magistrates court, only one man was charged, senior police confirmed yesterday.

On Friday police said out of the 13, only two might be charged with any crime, as there was not enough evidence to charge them for conspiracy to commit murder.

The officer said only one man was charged for a previous murder and said the other was put on identification parade for housebreaking in the Arima district. But the source could not say if he had been charged.

A release issued by the police last week Thursday reported that 13 young men were held outside a court where they were suspected of plotting to murder the witness.

Four vehicles they used, which were found parked near the court, were seized.
