Bandit killed by guard at Fyzabad bar

A security guard at a bar in Fyzabad shot and killed one of three gunmen during a hold-up.

Police identified the dead man as David Phillip of Point Fortin.

Police said shortly after 3 pm, Phillip and two other gunmen went to Picker’s Sports Bar, formerly Screamers, at Guapo Main Road, announced a robbery, then realised the guard had a gun.

They started shooting at him and the guard returned fire. The guard was shot and wounded, and the bandits ran off.

Residents contacted Fyzabad police, who found the then-unidentified man in some bush nearby. He was later identified as Phillip.

His two accomplices fled before police arrived

The guard was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility.

Police from the South Western Division and Homicide Bureau Region III are investigating.
