Oil spill contained at Sanderson Park

CLEAN up operations ended on Saturday evening after an oil spill was contained at Sanderson Park in Fyzabad. Approximately two barrels of oil reportedly spilled in the front entrance of the park.

According to a media release from Heritage Petroleum Company Limited, the leak was discovered on Saturday morning at 4.30am and the company’s Incident Command Team were immediately dispatched.

When clean up work began the road was closed for a short period and traffic was diverted, according to the release.

“The 4” pump line, which was the source of the leak, was isolated at approximately 5.15 p.m. and the requisite safety precautions and repair works were undertaken. Approximately two barrels of oil were spilled.”

The release said firemen were also called in to render assistance by washing and removing excess oil on the roadway. “At 8:15 am yesterday, the pipeline was sealed with a temporary clamp and returned to service; all contaminated material was being removed and taken to a Heritage site.” The company said they are also scheduling the replacement of all the pipelines at the Sanderson Park Road crossing.

And the Ministry of Energy & Energy Industries and the other regulatory authorities have been notified of the incident.
