TOMORROW, just two days after Mother’s Day, murdered Venezuelan Katherine Diaz, 26, is expected to be buried at the Navet public cemetery in Princes Town. But relatives, among them her three young children, cannot afford to travel here to bid the final goodbye.

The funeral starts at 3 pm at Armour's Funeral Home at High Street, Princes Town. A Trinidadian friend of the family said he is hoping to send video footage to the bereaved family.

"We will do WhatsApp videos and send to them. The funeral is under Christian rites. Hopefully, they get Wi-Fi from a neighbour or someone to see it.

"At the end of the day, Katherine will get a proper burial," said the friend.

Last week Sunday, a man repeatedly stabbed Diaz on a couch in the living room of the house at King Street in Princes Town where they were staying with other people. The suspect, also a Venezuelan, is said to be the father of one of her children.

After stabbing her, he calmly walked away.

PCs Mitchell, Basdeo and Johnson of the Princes Town police station arrested him two days late while he was hiding in some bush near where the stabbing occurred.

The suspect worked at a supermarket and Diaz had arrived in Trinidad a week before she was fatally stabbed to seek a better life.

The suspect does not speak English and up to today remained in custody. He is assisting Homicide Bureau Region III police, via a translator, with the investigation.

Police have not yet completed a file. Once completed, it will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for instructions.

PC Ali of the Homicide Bureau is investigating.
