Replacement for Ramdeen to be announced this week

UNC public relations officer Anita Haynes says a replacement for former senator Gerald Ramdeen will be made this week. Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar accepted Ramdeen’s resignation one week ago.

He and former attorney general Anand Ramlogan appeared in court on Monday last week to answer three charges of conspiracy to engage in money-laundering, conspiracy to bribe and conspiracy to misbehave in public office.

Haynes told Newsday the UNC is preparing a series of stories on warrants and warrant-less searches. “It is the people’s right to be shown a warrant.

We will look at the process by which police get warrants, what evidence needs to be provided to get a warrant, who approves a warrant, when are police or other authorities permitted to act without a warrant.”
