Chaguanas police are investigating several leads surrounding the failed murder attempt on Rachael Sukhdeo, the widow of used car dealer Sheron Sukhdeo, as she and friends left a Chaguanas restaurant this morning.

Police said Sukhdeo and friends left Hangers Sports Bar at around 3 am when two cars pulled up and fired at them. Sukhdeo and her friends, who were already inside their cars, were not wounded.

Members of the Central Division were called in and a Nissan Tiida, believed to be one of the cars used by the gunmen, was found abandoned near the Endeavour Overpass, shortly after.

Police said they were not sure of the motive for the shooting, but were investigating several leads.

Citing a rash of killings in the Chaguanas area after the Sheron’s murder in March last year, one officer said police spoke to relatives and tried to soothe tensions as police were concerned similar violence may follow.

Police are also asking members of the public to come forward with any information they may have on the shooting.
