MOTHER’S Day will always be special across the world, but the significance of giving birth on that day has added a vast amount of joy for a few mothers across the country.

Yesterday, four women welcomed their bundles of joy at the San Fernando general hospital and two others at the Point Fortin hospital. They described experience as the best Mother’s Day gift.

Adrian Green, weighing 3.09kgs, was born to Kizzy Hicks of San Fernando at 12.04am.

A smiling Hicks said she was expected to give birth on Saturday, but is happy Adrian was born on Mother’s Day. He is her fourth child. Hicks’ common-law husband Andradie Green said he could not explain how overjoyed he felt.

“This is happiness for me,” he said as he watched his wife cuddling their son.

Nearby, first-time mother Dianna Gunness of Barrackpore echoed similar sentiments. Her daughter Arveena was the third baby born yesterday. Arveena weighed 3.34kgs. The second baby was born at 3.55am and the fourth baby was born at 7.18am.

Gunness’ husband Danny Gunness said he slept on a bench in the corridor outside the ward on Saturday night when his wife was taken to the hospital.

“I was so anxious but I knew she would come when she was ready.”

He said his daughter’s name means knowledge in Hindi.

The mothers were presented with hampers from the South West Regional Health Authority.

At the Point Fortin hospital, two boys were born at 5.21am and 8.43am.
