Campbell, Paul triumph at Cycling Champs

AKIL CAMPBELL claimed two gold medals and Nicholas Paul got one as the Elite and Under-23 TT Cycling Federation (TTCF) National Track Cycling Championships continued on Thursday at the National Cycling Velodrome, Couva.

Campbell, a member of the PSL club, triumphed in the elite men individual pursuit in a time of four minutes 48.198 seconds.

Tyler Cole of Team DPS took silver in four minutes 51.668 seconds and Adam Alexander of Team Raiders earned bronze in four minutes 55.736 seconds.

Kemp Orosco of Team DPS placed fourth in 5:09.953, followed by clubmate Maurice Burnette (5:14.216), Nathan Alexander of Team Woods (5:22.024), Jovian Gomez of PSL (5:26.398) and Daniel Wallen of Slipstream (5:43.353).

In the elite men scratch race, Campbell topped the field, with Orosco, Adam Alexander, Cole, Donnell Harrison of Rigtech Sonics and Burnette trailing.

Paul emerged victorious in the elite men keirin race in 10.432 seconds. Quincy Alexander of Team DPS claimed silver and Haseem McLean of PSL took bronze. Completing the field were Darius Beckles (unattached), Harrison and Peter Thompson (Arima Wheelers).

And the TTCF, in a media release yesterday, announced the results of the elite men sprint final which took place on Wednesday.

Quincy Alexander, who won the elite men flying 200 earlier on the day, was victorious in the sprint final, followed by the unattached pair of Michael Ackee and Beckles.

The Elite and Under-23 men competition will end today at the National Cycling Velodrome from 1 pm.
