NATIONAL Security Minister Stuart Young said "no-one is above the law," just after he vowed a probe of a dubious deal for US$42 million to lease an automated passport check kiosk at Piarco Airport done under a former board of the Airports Authority appointed by the Government.

At yesterday's post Cabinet briefing at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann's, Newsday asked if the Government would be tainted by the fact they had named the former board which is now to be probed.

Young said, “No, it doesn’t reflect badly," Young replied. "In fact what I would suggest is that it is the opposite. This administration has always said that no-one is above the law.”

While making no premature pronouncements as to whether any wrong was done by the former board, he said red flags had been raised that now justified an independent probe.

Again denying that a probe reflects badly on the Government, Young said, “It shows that the Government will not protect anyone. The Government will send in an independent investigator in circumstances where we think it is merited, regardless of who the people or person is.”
