Trinis held with drugs in Venezuela

Two Trinidadians and three Venezuelans were arrested in Venezuela earlier this week for allegedly having 264 kilograms marijuana in a boat, according to a report in Tane Tanae Noticias — a news outlet in Tucupita.

The report on Tuesday said members of the Coastal Surveillance Command of the Bolivarian National Guard confiscated the marijuana which was hidden in the boat by a rock in the dock of Tucupita.

Coastal surveillance commander, Javier Ordaz Ferrer, via a press release, reported that the drug was in 439 wrappings in a secret compartment which had a TT flag.

Tane Tanae Noticias reported that the authorities placed the five arrested people under the care of the Public Prosecutor's Office while investigations are being carried out.

These actions are carried out to maintain the fight against drug trafficking and everything that this illicit industry represents, Ordaz Ferrer said in the release. It gives continuity to the policies from the national Government and the Commander in Chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Nicolás Maduro Moros.

No details were given about the identities of the Trinidadians.
