TT’s Chervelle Cox successfully graduated with her Bachelors in Business Administration - Management from Central State University (CSU) over the weekend.

Born and raised in Gonzales, Belmont, Cox was initially awarded an athletic scholarship to San Jacinto College, Texas in 2014. Following a short stint at the institution, she transferred to Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) for the 2015-2016 season. Cox admitted to her academic struggles at the university which resulted in her losing her scholarship.

In a recent Facebook post she reflected on the challenges faced during that period of her life. Cox stated, “The feeling I had when I left TWU was bad and I vowed to myself, that it will never happen to me academically again.”

Being relegated to a junior college, Cox though reluctant, played for Essex County College in New Jersey. However, here is where she began making a name for herself averaging a double-double throughout the 2016-2017 season.

Her outstanding performance that year awarded her another scholarship opportunity to CSU in Ohio, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) division II school.

In her final year at CSU, Cox averaged 26 minutes, 10.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Furthermore, she had a season high of 27 points, 19 rebounds, 8 steals and 4 blocks within the same year.

In keeping her word from her past academic disappointment in 2016, she excelled in the classroom. She was awarded the highest academic cord – “Gold Cord” for her academic excellence during her tenure at CSU maintaining a 3.7 GPA.

After four years of trials, tribulations and achievements, Cox has successfully completed her journey as a cum laude honour student.

Cox represented TT women’s team at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championship for Women in Tortola, British Virgin Islands in 2014.
