Teen visits police station to sign in, gets arrested for theft

An 18-year-old Malabar man was arrested for stealing cash and a cell phone when he went to a police station for his notebook to be signed as part of his bail conditions for another offence.

Police said the teen, is suspected of breaking into a maxi taxi along the Malabar main road and stealing a Samsung cellphone and $1500 at around 1.30 pm yesterday.

The driver saw the maxi was broken into and called the police. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from the area and recognised the thief as a known offender.

When he came in to have his notebook signed hours later, he was arrested and is expected to be charged today.
