Mother, sons chopped, beaten
BANDITS broke into a house at Espinozar Avenue, Enterprise, Chaguanas, and chopped, beat and robbed a 62-year-old mother and her two adult sons on Monday.
The woman and her sons, police said, are now in serious condition at the Eric Williams Sciences Complex.
Police said the woman was chopped on her head while her sons' ages 32 and 35 were chopped to their chest and hands.
According to a police report, at about 2 am, two men broke into the family’s home by prying open the front door.
The noise woke the woman who then alerted her two sons who then went to the front of the house where they encountered the bandits.
Holding cutlasses the bandits announced a hold-up and demanded the family hand over cash and jewelry.
Police said one of the men ordered the family into a room and began chopping and beat the mother and her sons while the other ransacked the house.
The men then ran out of the house with an undisclosed amount of money and quantity of jewelry.
When Newsday visited the village today, neighbours said they were living in fear.
One woman said, “How can you watch a woman and chop her? You came from a woman, you have a mother.
"These people have no hearts. They are evil and we don't know who is next now. You are not safe in your own home!”
She believes the family was being watched.
“Her sons are farmers so I guess they thinking they have money but, really and truly, these people are honest and hardworking people.
"But nobody wants to work nowadays they want everything free.”
Another neighbour said she was praying for the full recovery of the woman and her sons.
“I pray that they pull through this. They did not deserve this. It is really frightening what is happening in this country now.”
No arrests have been made and Chaguanas CID police are investigating.
